ABS Quality Evaluations Visits COSCO Shipyard, CCAA and CNCA
On 2 June 2017, ABS Quality Evaluations, Inc. (ABS QE) President Alex Weisselberg and ABS QE Vice President Dominic Townsend visited COSCO (Shanghai) Shipyard and were well received by the leadership team.
During the meeting, Mr. Jiang Jijiang, General Manager of COSCO (Shanghai) Shipyard, welcomed the ABS QE representatives and delivered a briefing on the production of the Shipyard in the field of special ship repair and marine/offshore product design and construction. Weisselberg provided his congratulations as to the successful performance made by COSCO (Shanghai) Shipyard in the current marine and offshore market environment.
The two organizations discussed further cooperation between COSCO and ABS QE in the areas of quality, environment, occupational health and safety management and management systems certification.
In addition, Weisselberg, Townsend and the ABS QE China team visited the China Certification and Accreditation Association (CCAA) and Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA) on 5 June 2017.
During the morning meeting at CCAA, Weisselberg and Townsend met with Executive Vice Chairman/Secretary General Mr. Sheng Fei for an in-depth discussion covering the effectiveness of certification, value-added audits, service certification, competency of certification personnel and the expansion of certification bodies into new business areas.
During an afternoon meeting with CNCA Deputy Director Mr. Xu Zengde and Ms. Ge Hongmei, CNCA Deputy Director General of the Accreditation Department, the ABS QE and CNCA leadership exchanged views on the reform of administrative approval to certification bodies and the promotion of new areas of certification. The two parties also discussed further cooperation in China.
