How to Effectively Perform PSM/RMP Audits Remotely During COVID-19 and Beyond
Complying with deadlines for conducting process safety management (PSM) audits can be challenging in the current COVID-19 environment. Many companies have imposed travel bans and imposed significant restrictions on who can visit their facilities. Even if it were feasible to travel and enter a facility, many key personnel who would normally participate in audits are working remotely. OSHA has stated that it expects companies to make good faith efforts and thoroughly explore all options for complying with its requirements, including PSM requirements and suggests using "remote communication strategies." This presents an opportunity for companies to use web meeting tools to conduct audits remotely.
In this webinar, we will share our experience in conducting remote PSM audits, including unique considerations faced when the documentation is mostly maintained as hard copy records and scanning it is impractical. We will explore web meeting and document sharing software options and discuss best practices for sharing and viewing key documents. We will provide advice on preparing for audits in this new environment, and on scheduling interviews and other audit activities. And, we will share lessons learned by our entire team of PSM auditors from remote audits we have conducted in the last 90 days, as well as from audit activities we have conducted remotely over the years.

Bill Bradshaw

Bill led the effort to write the book Guidelines for Risk Based Process Safety (AIChE, 2007) The AIChE's Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) has stated that this book will chart the future direction of process safety management (PSM) for CCPS member companies over the next 20 years or more. More recently, he co-authored the CCPS book Conduct of Operations and Operational Discipline (AIChE, 2011). He has also contributed to CCPS books titled Guidelines for Mechanical Integrity Systems (AIChE, 2006), Guidelines for Management of Change for Process Safety (AIChE, 2008) and Layer of Protection Analysis: Simplified Process Risk Assessment (AIChE, 2001). He is the primary instructor for 小蝌蚪视频's courses on PSM, mechanical integrity/codes and standards, risk-based process safety, conduct of operations and management of change.
Marney Gillmore
Marney Gillmore is a principal engineer at 小蝌蚪视频 with more than 33 years of professional engineering experience.
