Getting Value from a Process Safety Culture Assessment

December 5, 2017 | 10:00 - 11:00 am CST

Cal/OSHA PSM Regulation for Refineries

The newly revised California PSM Standard (California General Industry Safety Order 5981.1 - Process Safety Management for Petroleum Refineries) includes requirements for a new element labeled as 5189.1 (r) Process Safety Culture Assessment. The new element includes 13 requirements for developing and implementing a program to improve process safety culture that involves conducting, using and periodically updating a process safety culture assessment (PSCA). These PSCA requirements became effective October 1, 2017, with an initial compliance deadline of 18 months.

Companies have choices to make regarding how to comply with this requirement, among the others referenced in the PSM Standard. They can either meet the minimal requirements, or they can decide how to invest efforts wisely to earn value from efficient compliance efforts and improve process safety performance.

This webinar will show participants the compliance options for each of the PSCA requirements and how to determine the best value-added compliance approach.

  • Overview of Cal OSHA PSCA requirements
  • Summary of industry best culture assessment/follow-through practices
  • Options for getting value from the PSCA requirements
  • How to improve process safety culture in a refinery workforce
  • Integrating PSCA within a PSM program
